The Land of The Free?
Richard
January 20, 2005
As an African American living in America I feel as though America is not the free and equal country pioneers years ago constructed it to be. America is believed to be the country of the free and equal, a society in which any individual can grow up to become anything he/she desires. If this were true, then every United States president wouldn't have the same characteristics and description. I think America lost this dream of an equal country at the genesis of slavery.
American politicians and other government officials should not be in position to speak for the common person. As a common person these are my feeling and views. How can a political administrator change what's going wrong in a community, if he's never spent time there or knows and connects with people who've resided there? Almost all of government officials are from the upper class although the majority of the public is part of the lower and middle class. Politics in America are all about money. The system is designed for the rich to stay rich and the poor to stay poor.
The only group that can change the future of America is the next generation. Sometimes dubbed the lost generation, the era of cell phones, Internet, M.T.V., and Buddha smoke. Nonetheless, it hurts me to say it but the next set of young people isn't going to improve the environment any more than this age band did. Hopefully this age group will prove me wrong and improve the living conditions in America.
