A Soldier Among Us
Kyle
December 15, 2004
The person I admire is my father, Joseph, a tremendous guy, good friend, and the best dad! My father is in his mid forties and is still up for anything. He still plays hockey, and even though he says he is not that good, I think he is superb. He looks like a regular guy but if you ask around in Southie, people will tell you that he has touched many lives in many different ways. He grew up in the projects and had a dream to make his mom, who passed away, his dad, whom he never met, and his brother who died proud. He was a mere 20 when all of his relatives except a cousin passed on! That was just the more reason to quit, but he saw it as just another challenge. He fought and worked and now we own a house in South Boston, which is four floors.
My father graduated high school and college. He was working since he was fourteen and always helped others. His mother, my grandmother, so I hear, was the nicest lady around. My dad said "She was the type of woman that if she had fifty cents to her name she would give you a quarter.
If I had to pick one word to describe my dad I would pick "unbreakable". Through all the sorrow, pain, misery and hardship he still succeeded and he didn't stop there. He made a family, and we went on trips to Florida, Maine, Vermont and Bermuda.
My father didn't join the army, navy or marines, but ladies and gentlemen, he is a true soldier. He is probably the only man out there that I would take a bullet for. He is admired wherever he goes; he earns respect from everywhere in Southie or out of Southie. I have two twin sisters and he treats them like angels, the perfect father figure. Sure we have had our share of fights but it only made us stronger. We have a certain bond that we would fight for each other and love and treat each other with the same respect, as we would want from someone else. In conclusion, I would like to add that my father is not just my best friend. dad, you're my hero.
