Walk in the Underworld

Jelani
November 16, 2004

I haven't traveled the world but of all the places I have traveled there is one in particular that will always be my favorite, Jackson Square station. No matter what time of day it is, there is always constant movement. When I got to Jackson I feel as if I am in New York because it seems like no one ever sleeps. This is where the tallest projects (Heath st) are spotted from far distances throughout the city. The smell of pollution, fast food, and the steady flow of Females intrigue me. I never find myself un-wanted here or un-interested about being there. A good proportion of the Jackson square environment is based on crime activity. However I grew accustomed to it and it became my favorite place to be. Jackson square is surrounded by urban elements such as, project buildings, gangs, addicts, narcotics, restaurants, outlet stores and much more.

The true reason I like Jackson Square is because it was the tree in my life. As time progressed I branched off to other places. I watched friends come and go but this was my world. This is where we'd all meet up and hangs out from sun up to sun down. The presence of Jackson Square gives a pure visual of the "Ghetto" life. The fact that this is a train station you can imagine how many people constantly commute through here. Only when I visit Jackson square I feel that rush of adrenaline. For someone who isn't familiar with the area it may be the worst time of his or her life. In newcomers prospective Jackson square is for the most part dangerous and predominantly gang involved. I learned the ins and outs of this area and it grew to be apart of my life.
