My Ma
Shaquanna
December 15, 2004
The person I would have to say I admire the most would be my mother Edna. My mother was a very noble woman, the most kind and generous person I have ever known. She performed a lot of - what I believe are- miracles in her life. She didn't always understand where I was coming from, however she knew where she wanted me to go.
My mother was born on Nov. 20, 1930 in Palatka, Florida. In her early twenties she moved to Boston, Mass. She gave birth to three children, Schreyl Allen, Anthony Pitts and Belinda Pitts and adopted two, Sharla Pitts and myself. My mother opened a large day care in Dorchester, Mass and also became a wonderful foster mother. Since the beginning of her career she took care of more than 50 children. We did not have the best relationship; however I have learned to love and appreciate her for who she was and what she did.
In May of 2004 my mother was diagnosed with terminal stomach cancer. I watched her go from an energetic 74 year old to a weak old woman. While my mother was sick she had a very nonchalant attitude about what was going on inside her. She tried to make it seem like she wasn't sick, just like I tried to make it seem like she wasn't leaving me.
On June 22, 2004 my mother passed away. Some like to say, She went home. I miss my mother more than anything in the world. I will never forget her face. I will never forget her southern accent or her weird remedies. My mother was and will always be the only person I admire.
