Science and Health
Natalie's Classroom

What we are working on Second Quarter
Biology
We will be studying sorces of cell energy, including respiration, fermentation, and photosynthesis. We will also look at what influences the fate and reproduction of cells. Throughout the quarter we will maintain the plants we planted at the beginning of the quarter and use them to look at growth and genetics.
Chemistry
We are looking at how molecules are composed, how to determine the molecular formulas and the placement of atoms in molecules. We will also look at the ways in which atoms bond together and how this influences their behavior.
Physics
We started off the quarter with an egg drop project, using our knowledge of physics to try to design a vehicle in which an egg could survive a three-story fall. We will also be looking at the physics of velocity, speed, and momentum and applying these laws to situations seen in everyday life.
Health
We began the quarter talking about HIV/AIDS and the impact it has had on our society and countries around the world. We will then move to studying illness and prevention of illness while each student chooses a topic to study in depth.
