New Competition begins February 2008!
The Goal
Mission: Represent is about identity and self-expression.
How you present yourself is a part of your identity. But communicating who you are is a skill, and it is often a challenge to have your vision respected. Mission: Represent will try to inspire students to look inside themselves and dictate to the world how they will be seen.
They will learn to give thought to not only what they say, but how they present it.
The Concept
Mission: Represnt is loosely based on popular reality televison programs. Shows such as American Idol, Project Runway, America's Next Top Model and Top Chef turn a vocation into a contest. Our contest revolves around Graphic Design. Our student have been divided up into teams that will form design agencies, each tasked with projects and challenges that might face a graphic designer.
During these projects, they will use computer graphic skills as well as artistic creativity to find thier own styles and vision. They will have to work as a team, and utilize each team member's strengths. All team members will create personal portfolios of their work, and the teams will each have online galleries and blogs.
The Rules
Three teams have been created with effort made to maintain evenly-matched skill levels.
Each week, the team members will be given a new project. Some projects are individual challenges, others are team projects. Each team will recieve a score for the week, and the scores will be tallied throughout the contest.
The team that ends the year with the highest score will recieve prizes and hopefully public recognition of their acheivements.
Individual Challenges
On most projects, students will work individually on seperate versions of the challenge. They will be encouraged to consult and assist each other, but a product will be created by all team members. The teams score will be calculated by averaging the score of each team member.
Team Projects
On some projects, the team will work together and create only one final product. In these cases, the team will receive a single score.
