| What we are working on Third Quarter |
English
Having completed Their Eyes Were Watching God , we are moving on to the classic novel One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest by Ken Kesey. We are fortunate enough to have good productions of both of these novels and will watch both at the end of their respective novels. This will end our time with modern American literature as we follow it up with Shakespeare's Macbeth , which has several film versions we will be critiquing. |
English
We are in the midst of Fahrenheit 451 and are working on a short research paper on censorship in the United States. Along with this novel we will be watching Blade Runner and Gattaca for examples of dystopian themes in movies. Blade Runner will be the last in a series of explorations of the work of writer Philip K. Dick , who used science fiction to deal with themes of government control and human nature. After 451 , we will be reading Aldous Huxley 's classic Brave New World.
